This year, Dr. Probir Kumar Pal from CSIR - Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, India, will join the 10th World Convention on Stevia held in Lisbon & Online on June 1-3, 2022. Dr. Pal will deliver a talk during his session about the "Recent Agronomic Development on Stevia towards attaining Higher Productivity".
During the session, Dr. Pal will explain the results of the recent agronomic research to increase the leaf biomass and steviol glycosides yield. He will discuss how nutrient management strategy improves the salinity tolerance of stevia. The soil-water-nutrient-plant relationship will also be discussed.
Key points discussed:
- Stevia can be grown in moderate saline conditions with exogenous foliar application of KNO3.
- Optimization of N dose for the dense and thin population to increase dry leaf yield of stevia without sacrificing the production of total SGs.
- Do soil moisture and N levels influence growth and biomass yield of Stevia rebaudiana?
- Does soil moisture synergistically interact with nitrogen levels to increase the yield and quality of stevia?
